The Council uses the humanities to provide cultural enrichment for all Mainers and as a tool for social change, bridging social, economic and cultural barriers.

Hosted each spring by the University of Southern Maine in Portland, the three-day high school conference features national and non-governmental teams.

The Mid-Coast Forum on Foreign Relations
The Mid-Coast Forum on Foreign Relations was organized in 1983 by a small group of area residents with a special interest in the United States role in international affairs. Membership is currently about 150. The group includes individuals who have had considerable experience abroad with the United States government, corporations, and private agencies. Also represented are writers, physicians, educators, journalists, lawyers, business people, and others seeking to stay informed on international issues. Local high-school students with a special foreign affairs interest are invited to attend meetings on a rotating basis.
The Forum meets during most months in Erickson Hall at Point Lookout in Northport and occasionally at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month throughout the year and run from 11:30AM to 2PM. The format includes a brief social period, speaker’s presentation, question period and luncheon. Speakers typically arrive the day before and are hosted by Forum members

Since 1993, Seeds of Peace has set the standard in international peace-building by providing exceptional young people and educators from regions of conflict with an otherwise impossible opportunity to meet their historic enemies face-to-face at our International Camp in Maine. Seeds of Peace build on extra-ordinary and critical relationships and understanding through year-round local programs that focus on the core leadership capacities needed to advance peace. There are now over 5,000 Seeds and Educators from 27 countries who prove that solutions exist, peace is possible, and there is reason to have hope for a better future."
