There are a number of resources that can enable teachers to assess current levels of global education in curriculums, school and local communities. An in-depth study was taken by me during Fall 2012 in Auburn Maine using Edward Little High School and the local Auburn Community. I used two materials to assist me, both of which were incredibly helpful.
THE ASIA SOCIETY: EDUCATING FOR GLOBAL COMPETENCE ~ Preparing Our Youth to Engage the World
This resource speaks to classroom teachers, administrators, informal educators, policymakers, community leaders, researchers, parents, students, and all other stakeholders interested in preparing our youth to become invested, productive global citizens.
The book is a wealth of information. It clearly defines what is meant by the term, global competency and offers arguments, proof and examples in favor of global education.
This resource gives a conceptual framework for global competence and explains the importance of disciplinary & interdisciplinary foundations in student learning.
The key, four capacities of global competence: investigating the world, recognizing perspectives, communicating ideas, and taking action are discussed at length.
The last portion of the book is dedicated to the promotion of global educational pedagogy & what it looks like outside of The United States.
